Since WH Smith have now pulled the plug on their excellent e-magazines service, I'm trying to switch over to IPC Mags service to get these digitally. The deal seems to be £29.99 for I assume 12 months of editions, but when I click on the banner ad it takes me to a website that quotes me in US dollars, and then at the last step adds VAT, and the whole lot comes to something over £35 depending on exchange rates. Surely something is wrong here...

I've spoken to two people at the YM/PBO offices and so-far neither can help. Head Office Customer Service are on voicemail so maybe they'll call me back, but have others had this same issue? If I recall it was the reason I went the WHS route in the first place. Surely at least the "basket" should show the cost in GBP and include tax up front, not on the last step before buying /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have never understood IPC's pricing policy when it comes to their digital subscriptions. Surely, digital costs less - so how come a digital subscription costs more than the print subscription. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I subscribe to Cruising World - digital. Costs less than half of the print version.

YM & PBO did use the now defunct Menzies Digital to fulfill our digital issues, but at the same time and for the last five years we've also used Zinio, which is what you're describing here.

If you subscribed to Menzies Digital you will shortly be hearing from Zinio to offer you a free one year subscription to YM or PBO using their service. This only applies to subscribers who used Menzies Digital to receive digital versions of YM or PBO. A notice will be sent to you within the next 14days.

As far as pricing goes, it's an ongoing discussion that we have internally and you make some compelling points concerning the production of the magazines. However, I hope you agree we produce first class editorial content, which doesn't come cheap and it's this content we hope you value most and think is worth the investment, irrespective of delivery means.

Prices should be shown in GBP£ - however this only happens when you select what country you are from at www.zinio.com You should be able to sample all our issues fine at www.ybw.com/digital - I've just been on and checked and it seems okay. However, prices are shown in $US there to first time users, so I'll try and get that changed so it's in GBP£ as a default.

I'll make sure your views are passed on when we're discussing pricing with the powers that be again. I hope that helps.

Feel free to PM me if you've any other questions.

If I subscribe, can I download to a Kindle or Sony Reader? If so, I will be interested assuming the price is less than the paper magazine.

In between the WWII German aircraft production posts, some valid points are being made.

Just make sure you get the facts right.

Clearly some changes have been made today, as £29.99 now shows as the price in my basket. I can't find the links to the "sample" magazines today, but they didn't work yesterday. I would like to be able to try out the reader software before I subscribe. Is Menzies Digital the WH Smith digital service? I have been a subscriber to both YM and PBO with them for about a year. They cut off the service last week but with very poor communication. Just an e-mail that my credit card had been cancelled. I had to find out why. Pity, because their reader was very good, and the mags arrived on my desktop bang on time. Hopefully the IPC service is as good. Thanks for the help anyway.
