A few weeks ago, I asked forumites whether the YM classified ads actually worked. Well, here's my experience:

"Prophecy" was advertised in the October issue, which was published in early September (cost £135). It was also (automatically) posted on the YM Boats for Sale website. The result? Five serious enquiries, two offers, and sold for a good price on the 23rd September!! - and no brokers fees, so I'm a happy bunny!!

If you are selling your boat, it's worth a try I'd say!

Well done YM!

YM, PBO etc are fine and have a large audience, but if you are selling a boat with an active class association with a web site, its also worth checking out whether or not they take ads on their web site

The Westerly Owners Association for instance has great success with ads, its free for members and only £25 for 3 months for non members

Here are some quotes from sellers this year:

“...please remove my ad, ... I had more responses to the advert.in the WOA site than I had from 4 months worth of adverts in PBO. Please keep up the good work” Slieve August 2005

"..we had an enquiry the very first day it appeared, and the enquirer eventually bought the boat. Many thanks for maintaining such a interesting and informative Web Site which must be the envy of other Sailing Associations, it's certainly effective in selling boats." David Hunt June 2005

“I placed my Westerly Pageant for sale on the WOA site on 18/2/05 and sold it to someone who responded on the same day. Couldn't really ask for more than that.” Tony Braidley April 2005

“My Westerly has been sold. I had several serious enquiries via your web site, the first response resulting in a sale, what can I say - and it's a free service to Westerly owners!” Chris W - April 2005

“Please delete the ad from the web site as the boat is now sold - many thanks, boat advertised and sold within 10 days.” G Pentleton March 2005

“I sold her (my Centaur)her as a direct enquiry from the advert on WOA. I am still getting calls about her, and people are disappointed she is sold!! So the WOA craft for sale site works well!” Steve May February 2005

“...I have sold my boat today to the first viewer, and its only been on your website 17 days! Thank you very much. I have passed on details of WOA to the new owner. Many thanks once again” Alex Evans - January 2005
