Credit where it's due, also the Channel can indeed offer some magic landscapes.
This shot won the "Landscape Of The Year" prize, I thought someone else around here might like it...

Please sir, please sir, I know! :D

Edit: it's a clever shot in that it *just* avoids the appalling industrial chimney that's recently been built to the right of the picture.

I've probably missed a few things since 1999 I left the UK, did they burn the pier or something?

Pic looks great although the waves plus the flock of whatever that is make it v.surreal

V.

Big fire in 2003 and subsequent storm damage resulted in the West Pier being closed the year after.

My grandfather was in charge of the sappers who removed a section of decking in WW2 to prevent it being used by a potential invasion army.

It is not known whether the High Command really believed that the Germans would pause at the 'What the Butler Saw' machine unless forcibly prevented or if it was just a ruse to keep grandfather out of mischief.

Family legend has always had it that he blew the pier up but I think the truth was more prosaic. :D

P. You can tell it's not the MED.........just look at the sea colour! :D

Thanks M, an interesting picture. I've looked at it long and hard but for some reason fail to love it. Visually it would seem to be slightly tilted to the left. Also the composition is not very interesting. But very strong presence of nature for sure.

Funny you should say that K, because I pretty much agree with your thoughts. There is a magic/surrealistic atmosphere in that image, which I suppose is what the jury appreciated, but fwiw I can't say to love it, too.
Among the other pics of the same contest, I like better the one below, for instance. But that's very subjective, obviously...
Just in case you are interested to see the others, this is the website where I found them.
Sorry, it's in IT, but if you click on one of the pics of each category, you can see them all.

Thanks again, some pretty amazing images there. Many appear be heavily enhanced digitally. The winners seems an exception to this norm, maybe that was part of it's appeal.
