So our boat is coming out in january 19th for stern thruster fitting , is it the right time to have it antifouled .

I did my antifouling in late Jan/ early Feb 2020.
That was a little down to luck with regard to suitable temperature and weather for applying the paint. Even then waited until late morning to start painting and kept the paint tins indoors so it didn't get too cold.

Ok ay the story so far , we had the boat antifouled in May 2020 , it hasnt done much work since . Now as i said its coming out for the thruster fitting in Jan 2021 which is a bad time to AF so do i need to do it again in May or will it last next season.

Some anti fouling paints good for 18 months with the recommendation of immersion after 24hrs min time to 30 days max time - so maybe if you did yours in May so far it has had 7 months and only intend to have her out for a very limited time you may be lucky
but I am sure someone will come along with who may have done this

Would it not be a bit disappointing if the antifoul had life expired after such a short period of time?

He gets the yard to slap it on for a price I cant compete against just buying the tinned product I use on a boat half his size. Who knows what's actually been applied
