Yeoman Navigator Pro navigatition mode not registering.

This is a long shot to see if anyone can help. Just had our old Yeoman Navigator Pro wired into our new boat. Obviously getting a GPS signal as Yeoman pilot works but the navigation mode won't register and all the four lights flash. It has been wired into the VHF to use that GPS. The GPS location in Yeoman mode is spot on and agrees with the location on the VHF. It doesn't help that the wires from the Yeoman plug aren't the same in the book. Brown instead of blue but the electrician has changed them round with no effect.
I presume he was right to use the VHF to source the GPS. We have run out of ideas. Will be very sad if we can't use this great bit of kit.
 
All lights flashing in nav mode is because it is not receiving position data from the chart. It is showing the same position as the GPS in Yeoman mode because that is just a feed. It is not referenced to the chart so doesn’t know where it is in relation to the reference points.
 
Agree it’s a great bit of kit. I suspect the GPS from the VHF is either at an incorrect (baud?) rate or does not send the correct default messages-see11-1-5 on page 42 of the manual. Maybe the VHF manual could indicate what it outputs. See page 56 15-1 Specifications for what inputs are required. Hope this is not superfluous info.

If it won't register the chart, that doesn't seem like a GPS feed problem, more like an internal fault. Mine died in similar fashion. All I could try was to replace the internal battery, to no avail. There seems to be no dealer support anymore so I reluctantly junked it.

I am told that there is a south coast based firm that does repair them . name begins with "P" but I cannot remember the full name. Possibly Premium. So before junking I would suggest some research. Perhaps a forumite here may know. I hope so because I would hate to loose my Yeoman.
I was under the impression that it could register a chart without GPS input & do basic plotting but not actual GPS positioning. Perhaps if you wired just the + &_VE wires & tried again that might eliminate plotter faults.

IIRC the original UK supplier was named "Precision Navigation". Was this the "P" . If so they seem to be long gone.

No. Not them, they bought it from the original firm, but did not last long. I got the name from a chandler in Burnham but cannot remember. It seems that they repair lots of makes of electrical gear for boats.
Lets see if a forumite can throw light on it.

They were nice people to deal with. I bought my yeoman second hand just as they were clearing out the last of their stock. Scooped up a bunch of the yeoman-branded pens for working on the overlay just before they disappeared. Collectors items now!
