Our chart plotter went u/s and has gone back to the new owners for a quote for repairs. Apparantly there has been water ingress into the puck and the electronics need replacing. Quote is £288 approx +vat for replacement or c £311+vat for a new one.
Would welcome suggestions - repair, replace or change to something else?. Have found the plotter a useful bit of kit combining charts with electronics.
Thanks

Well, I've got one in the boat I've just bought, and I've just taken it out or the chart table as I couldn't really see the point in it.

I wouldn't even know how to check it it works, but if it does and I can get a small number of quids for it, then I'm happy to pass it on. Do they really cost that much?

I'm not down on the boat again until the Bank Holiday, but I'll give it a go then and find out (not that I have a clue how it works)

new one £299.95 inc vat if you look around
best piece of kit around providing you actually know how to navigate with paper charts and are not a electronic navigator!
electronic live plotting on paper , electronic dr , electronic passage planning all with paper charts[which still are a legal requirment btw]

They come up on ebay quite often
On the other hand I would open the puck up - and give it a good clean. There is a black rectangular rubber like piece that provides the contact between the button assembly and PCB. Clean both sides of this with a pencil rubber you may be lucky and get it working again. Ours suppefered water damage sevral times and this is all it took to get it working again
