Is it just me, or are others finding that this site is data hungry? No problem when on free Wi-Fi but an expensive data guzzler when using GSM?

I found that this forum soon gobbled up my monthly allocation of 250mb of data.

I have no means of measuring it but it seemed to use far more than even the BBC news website.

adverts for sure. My adblock is showing 490 blocked on this page right now, and its going up like the litres indicator when I fill my mobo.
Now 1116 blocked ads.
Now 1427 blocked ads.

madness.

So it's not just me. Does Ad block stop the download or refuses its display.
Also the upload data accumulates to lots of megabytes.

In answer, no it not just you. It gobbles data when we use our mobile modem and it sucks (and sucks) laptop battery power.

it tends to cook my iphone so i dont come on it, i only use it on the laptop while... erm working!

if you want to cut out the krap while using this forum on an Android device try the Brave browser. It's got ad blocking built in rather than as an add on.

+1 it works on my iPad (older version)
On my newer iphone I use purify.
On the pc I use Adblock plus.

All make the forum usable but it’s like a war. Adblock was great on the iPhone until recently, then I had to change to purify.

And for those who say - this forum is free - you should look at the adverts.

2 things to say to that.
1 Non intrusive adverts fine. The ridiculous nonsense on here simply has to be blocked. Who thought it could possibly be ok?
2 Do I feel guilty? Not at all. I contribute to the forum free of charge. Much of what I say is only worth zero, but some of it helps make this forum what it is. Like it is with all of you.

Thanks. Blocking downloaded Ads is one thing, does Brave stop YBW sucking so much upload?

Apart from installing an Ad-blocker, I have disabled Javascript for this site. That seems to help a lot.

The only side effect I've noticed is that the message/reply editor misses all the buttons for formatting and inserting links/images. Temporarily enabling Javascript seems to help with that. Otherwise the site seems to run fine without JS.

For Firefox I've installed a small plugin to enable/disable Javascript per site (the plugin is called Disable Javascript). Chromecast already has the option built-in to disable JS per site.

Mine appears to have something constantly making small requests to k.streamrail.com some kind of streaming platform, again mostly used for ads and probably blocked. If it's not blocked it will certainly waste a lot of data.

Irritating as it's keeping the comp busy for nothing as it gets no response..
