May or may not be relevant that the larger (100N) versions of "buoyancy aids" with permanent foam buoyancy are now officially called "lifejackets".

25 foot is not ' small ' except to some egos !

At my club ( which like a lot of others was formed by Naval officers seeking enjoyment after the hell and stress of WWII ) a 21' wooden yawl was the biggest boat in the club for many years.

When we researched building new Anderson 22's years ago, it added up to £38,000 each before any profit was dialled in !

I know Cornish Crabbers charged £55,000 for a very badly set up 22' boat, but unsurprisingly they went bust.

The reason boats have got larger is that it's only a bit more grp to make a 35 footer, the sad consequence is seeing people in these things as their first boat.

The secondhand market is where it's at, and reviews on the lines of ' buying secondhand ' would be a good idea, PBO and Sailing Today have already done this on my boat.

I did not actually say that a 25 foot boat was small but in an era when couples buying their first boat are looking at 55 footers and several of the big manufacturers are building sailing yachts longer than 60 foot it seems a reasonable description.

Not all that long ago a 35 foot boat was described as being the ideal size for a couple. Now, on ours, we are one of the smallest boats in any anchorage or marina.

Which makes viewing from Marina locks like Port Solent Or Chichester a spectator sport !

I was at the excellent Chris' of C&B Marine, stainless fabricators next to CYC and the marina ( no connection ) when I coildn't help noticing the pile of mangled pulpits and pushpits in the corner; seems some mobo drivers are a bit impatient and try to muscle in like in the BMW's they drive !
