D'you get those monthly (it seems more often) YBW news emails? A handful of stories, sometimes riveting, sometimes less so.

And at the bottom, one can leave a comment, either about the article itself, or the issues raised therein. Nice idea, huh?

Did you see earlier this week, a story about an 'eco-freighter'? An engineless brigantine had brought over all manner of appealing Caribbean comestibles, on the trade wind; another nice, not-very-workable scheme, demonstrated by the vessel's late arrival in Portsmouth.

Somebody at YBW, evidently pinching himself to stay awake in the dull run-up to a busy Olympic summer, wrote in faux-shocking terms about how the crew of the brigantine realised that, "with horrible irony" their berth had been reallocated, to a "gas-guzzling superyacht"...

...necessitating that they park elsewhere, because the motorboat, owned by the ex-National Car Parks boss, was in their space. Shock, horror! Except that in the photograph, it's clear the brigantine actually docked just feet from where she'd been expected to tie-up.

The article rambles to a conclusion unrelated to the significant-sounding title. I don't think I've seen such a forlorn attempt to impress with news that isn't worth telling, since I helped with the school magazine...

..."You boys, stop the press!! It rained in the night!!! And...now...errr...it...seems to have stopped." Hmm. The Pulitzer awaits.

When, in the feedback-box at the bottom, I asked whether this story actually wasn't really a story, I accepted that all comments must be checked before they're posted. Guess what? My comment, politely phrased, was not posted.

So...not only lousy journalism, but keen to silence their critics! That's only a few steps from Pravda...:eek::rolleyes:

I don't know which part you commented on PBO/YM/YBW etc but all the approval is done by a real live human being, and they can only do it when they have the time

Below might give you a hint as to why your comment wasn't accepted straight away.....Here is all the spam that has hit the YM comments of the website since midnight last night.

Yes all this in one day....and if the person who approves comments happens to be out of the office on a Friday they get 4 days worth of this stuff to wade through

Okay, I don't envy that task - but on the other hand, it's possible to look through all that spam in sixty seconds, and discern that there's nothing of genuine or original interest amongst them. They're not hard to spot, are they?

All the crud is identifiable as spam, instantly - made conspicuous by mention of the church, dull fashion blogging, endless web addresses, lines of numerals and repeated mention of erectile disfunction. It can't be hard to spot when posts don't relate to stories YBW has started.

My question was serious, brief and straightforward. I don't call 'spam' a good excuse for excluding my reasonable comments.

I thought it was an amusing story and can't for the life of me think what moved you to ramble on so much about it :p

Too hot to go for a walk. :D

Completely understood.

I am only replying to your post because it is currently too hot to go to the boat and power wash the deck.

It is also too hot to move the outboard from the boot of the car to the garage, too hot to tidy the garage to make way for the outboard and too hot to mow the lawn later. :D:D:D

Lets hope it's a bit cooler tomorrow or I'm going to start building up a bit of a backlog!

Well...to be scrupulously honest, I LOVE the heat. I'm happy working in it, right up to 35ºc, or quite a lot less if I have to wear a tie. Lots of pre-air-conditioning shifts, busily selling tea by weight in the Harrods foodhalls, taught me how to cope... :D

...but, I am appallingly idle.

Hey Snooks. One of these spam messages was from me! How dare you post it in the public domain without my consent. I think I'll complain to the management at IPC Media. They have a rogue employee posting sensitive material on forums without their consent!
He/she even puts at the bottom of his posts that he is doing it without their approval

A1

PS Relax - only kidding :D

I would suggest that Snooks post informative though it is does indicate the real lack of support for the online community propvided by IPC. There is an old saying if it is worth doing it is worth doing well. The impression given much of the time is that IPC place limited value on the online community.

Gentlemen, I'm getting a sense that you're as bored as I was... :D ...sorry Maxi, I hadn't read your comment when I submitted.

I am leaving the fray for a few moments as it has cooled sufficiently in order for me to take the outboard out of the car.

Good grief, what is this? Facebook?:eek::eek:

Yeah, so...I got up this morning, made coffee, switched on the PC...haven't made the bed yet. I might go and get a white-chocolate Magnum. I found a water pistol under the sink, I've been squirting at convertibles when they drive past below...warm today, isn't it...

I think we need to be our own ruthless spam-filter.

Sorry Jonic. But I'm accustomed to the lofty standards of your excellently-phrased brokerage site. :)

No that's ok.

It's Friday. For some reason NOTHING happens on a Friday in brokerage after 11 am so I get supremely bored.

I have now put the outboard in the garage, but the power washer has corroded at the hose outlet so exploded when I tested it.

I'm off to the boat tomorrow morning so can anyone recommend current good deals on power washers from the usual big outlets.

Breaking news - hold the front page

Hello :)

May i ask if the people who made comments to ybw were asked for thier permission for those comments to be made public by ybw ?

Just asking ;)

But they weren't made public by YBW... Some guy called Snooks posted them without the knowledge of his employers - and without their consent!
For all we know Snooks could be an MP or even, heaven forbid, an employee of NewsCarp! It all seems a bit fishy to me... Maybe he lives in Portland Plaice :)

I'm getting confused. You are complaining that they didn't publish your comments and also complaining about them possibly publishing the comments of others without getting permission?

They can't win.

Perhaps thats because us load of free loaders on this free forum actually are of limited if not zero value to IPC. Possibly?
