The move will cut the charity's software spend by £5m over the next three years

Hmmm. For an organisation of c. 1400 FTE heads? Nearly £1200 per head per annum would be going to MS if it were not for this generous donation? Doesn't add up really. Still, good on MS I guess, certainly good PR. If £5M / 3 years is the MS share of their software budget I dread to think what the overall s/w spend is.
Five miliobn is a lot of money for sure and it is good that MS is so generous.
But the RNLI is a very rich charity and a quick look at their finances shows their income last year was almost £150 MILLION and thjey have reserves in excess of £500 MILLION both figures dwarf microsofts generosity.
The RNLI say they rescued 8000 people last year. So lets halve that figure as most will have been at least two people - and divide it into their total income last year - that works out at over £37,000 a shout!
They also spent nearly £15MILLION on fundraising last year!!!
All truly amazing figures - check out 'Charities Direct' and find out just how much dosh your favourire charity has squirelled away to finance its directors pensions!
