Yatch OLGA

Just curious.

Anyone here taken on this classic looking boat? I noticed it appear recently in a front garden near the “Limberlost” junction at Corfe Mullen/Lytchett Matravers. Within a couple of days of it arriving in the lucky soul’s front garden, an enourmous timber framed awning had been put up for protection.

The boat is about 35ft as far as I can tell, and is carvel built, with a long deep keel and a high toe rail. It looks like it has a squarish cabin/wheel house. The name is nicely carved in proper pirate style on the bow.

I look forward to watching progress each day as I’m stuck in my daily traffic jam.

I think this is a prawner previously belonging to a friend of mine, and spent many years in Preston dock as a liveaboard. He should have restored it but has now emigrated to Oz. Boat did have silly balustraded rails round it when I was last aboard, which was some years ago.

I hope whoever is restoring her does a better job of it than the last guy, and removes the wheelhouse and all the other silly Piratical twaddle, and turns her back into a decent sailing prawner. I think these are called "Nobbies" on the lancs coast.

g'day all.
just for the record.
olga was launched as a yawl in 1914 . built by crossfields in conwy, nth wales.42ft o/d . i , the ''previous owner'' did not carve the name in her stern , nor fit the bulw'ks, nor the rails around her stern.nor the wheelhouse. i wish i was so skilled ! the person i purchased her from completed all that work, and what a magnificent job he made of it all.wherever i arrived in olga she was always admired, we did actually leave preston marina on a couple of occasions. olga took me to the iom a few times ,, southern ireland and the menai straits.my first trip in her was to piel island with me old mate ken who taught me to sail.every where i've been with her i've made good friends. sorry to waffle on, a bit drunk at mo'.
regards ,the very proud ex caretaker of the sailing vessel ''olga''.

oh , and an apology owed to olga. i was very protective towards her and was very fussy about who i introduced to her.
but sadly , now and then, being only human, the odd ''one'' slipped through the net !? if you get my drift, oooooooo !i feel better now sic .

Dude! Never said you were the guy who added the piratical stuff - as you weren't. Olga is lovely inside, but a prawner should look and sail like a prawner. Said so at the time. Dressing any boat up to look like an extra from "Pirates of the Caribbean" is about as attractive as putting Jennifer Ellison in big rubber waders...

..Hmm. On the other hand, it does it for me.

hi, i am new to this forum, this being my first post. i along with my girl friend are the proud new owners of olga. she will over the next couple of years, maybe decades, be undergoing an extensive refit and restoration. As for originality, times change and to survive and prosper olga will also change. In reply to the car bound commuter, feel free to stop and have a brew any time. Hello to olgas previous owner, still waiting for the bill of sale. hope all is well with you.
