Yarmouth - Web Booking - take care...

Yarmouth could have had two lunch sittings while he is sat on his berth !

They would have. When you book a walk-ashore at Yarmouth you're not strictly speaking entitled to it until 1500 which is the time the booking is valid from. This is clearly shown on screen when you create the reservation before paying and the printed confirmation.

I've not been turned away when we've arrived early, but I don't think we've turned up before 1430. If it was a busy day and you turned up at 1230 though...?? Dunno, anyone been turned away or asked to pay up for a short term stay in addition to the overnight fee??

First time I recall seeing you venture onto the mobo forum, welcome :)
I hope you didnt take my comments to Fireball the wrong way , I am sure Fireball took them the way I intended them ;)

Let me try again.....

Dear Mr Fireball,
I can see why your comments might make a little sense to you and I hope you understand I am not criticising however you really should try to see this from the prospective of others.

tis true that we can move 100nm in less than 4 hours but we may wish to go further than 100nm, in which case we have to stop for fuel , Yarmouth is ideal for this and we have to wait for favourable tides in the pub, now how do you suppose we can do that without being tied up and plugged in ?

You must have heard the usual VHF traffic on a Saturday starting at 1600 through to 1800 of anxious boaters pleading for berths, Cowes is very low on this list for un booked berth availability, you make a valid contribution regarding swingers, they move out the muddy creeks heading to civilisation in the marinas leaving the marina dwellers wandering around homeless.

Have a nice day

Pete

Dear Mr Daka
You mean you only have a range of 100nm ??!! that's a bit tight coming back from the CI's then isn't it?
However, I have just measured - St PP to Yarmouth is 85nm - which leaves you 15nm in the tank to get to Cowes (9nm) - or Lymington (1.5nm) ... so you still have fuel to spare ... and it is generally cheaper to fill at Cowes ...

I'm not sure how you're going to get favourable tides in the pub - last time I looked they'd not moved it to below MHWS ... but I wait to be corrected (50 years should do it ;) )
If you've heard the usual pleading for berths traffic on a Saturday - then you are listening to CH16 as that is where the numpties start calling from ... unless you have a modified VHF (for shorebase operations) you will not hear the calling on Ch80- which most places use as it is a duplex channel ... unless you're specifically checking on Yarmouth then it is ch68, I don't listen to that one - just head on in anyway as there is usually a spare berth where someone hasn't turned up ...

I think we are digressing too much but in the interests of completeness and harmony in understanding the requirements of other water users.......

range 245
safe range 185

If I am cruising a long way in a day I tend to refuel every 100nm, if we have had an early start I tend to get hungry by lunch time anyway and a bar meal breaks a long journey up nicely especially if we need to wait for wind with tide, choppy wind against tide is not only tiring but can reduce us to 19/20knots ,flat water means we can cruise @ 26 knots in comfort :)

Well, in the interests of completeness ... there are pubs in Cowes and Lymington - and if you've just done a tiring 85Nm crossing at 26kn (3 1/4 hours) to find there is no room at Yarmouth for a lunchstop (we've never been turned away) then it is no great hardship to go cross tide to Lymington or with the tide to Cowes - or 'pushing it' 20Nm to Poole ...

There are people with genuine need for booking a walk-ashore - and they're not always the disabled folk .... should we deny them that facility just so you can nip in before them, nick their spot and get to the pub slightly earlier?

Thank you for the welcome. Only 53 ventures onto this forum so far (54 now) so relatively new here.

Although I fail to see the necessity to refer to those who may hold a contrary opinion to your own as "dummies" and "burks" it was the quote I highlighted which I objected to. The fact that you hold follicularly challenged, overweight, over 50s in such low esteem is obviously your business, but if you choose to make your feelings known on a public forum then you should not be surprised to receive feedback :D

LOL

Criticism accepted :D

edit

And just for clarity it was only the ones who park their 4x4s like girlies that I had a pop at.
