I am hoping to go to Yarmouth later this week. I have not been there for many years long before all the pontoons were in place. I want a walk ashore berth but I seem to recall earlier threads which suggest that some (or all?) are a bit tricky. I prefer a non tricky berth! Does anyone know which are the tricky ones? Does anyone have any advice to offer on entering a berth there?

Thank you.

Was there just over a week ago. Options were walk ashore £24 and 'Green' pontoon £12. Did both in the event and didn't find anything too tricky at all. Would have been a lot harder trying to raft on the piles, I reckon.

Been in there a couple of times in the past week, you may find you don't have a choice of berths - it has been as full on weekdays as it has been on some weekends and you could well end up where you are put. No really tricky berths, just be aware which way the tide is flowing when you go in. If you are near to slack water, no problem at all.

It's worth saying that the hm is very helpful. First time I went there I explained I was new and useless so he followed me in and used the dory to give me a nudge at just the right time.

It's Taittinger regatta this weekend in Yarmouth this weekend so places will be at a premium.

Alternativly you could take a mooring outside the Harbour, weather permitting, and use the water taxi who will drop you outside the ferry terminal quayside. We did it last year and it was a lot easier than messing about rafting. The moorings are on a First Come First Served basis, check with the HM which row to go on as they are set up for different boat lenghts & weights.

Probably the tides outside are more of a consideration. Although they are not that big yet at the weekend. Easy to shape up and then get the sails down and wind up trudging back to the entrance. Not that I would know!

We're thinking of going to Yarmouth this weekend too, but are quite happy to stay outside on a buoy - quieter and no hassles with rafting when we know we will want to leave fairly promptly in the morning. We've been in the harbour before, but never in the summer, so I don't know how busy it gets. I know it's impossible to be certain, but how likely are we to get a buoy if we arrive mid saturday afternoon?

All the bookable berths were full by Monday last week. As someone else has pointed out it is the Taittinger Regatta this weekend in Yarmouth so it will be busier than usual and with the good weather as well...

Thanks for all the replies. On balance decided to postpone the visit. Just as well too as it seems it will be busy. I will give it a go after school holidays. Thanks again.
