Anybody else seen the Dolphin at Yarmouth IOW?

Just had an excellent weekend in the Solent, and seeing the Dolphin made it even better. He dives right under the boat by the propellor...

Had a visit from Fungi the performing dolphin as we were leaving Dingle. Must make a fortune for the tourist trip boats. Probably on a commission. Couple of buckets of fish for each boat trip sounds about fair.

Funny thing though, you usually see them in pods and not on their tod. But apparently this Fungi's a loner. Could well have been corrupted by a life of easy fish, perhaps chasing away other dolphins entering the bay; "Hey! Feck off and find your own feckin' tourist boats".

Many years ago went swimmming with Funghi from the shore where he goes to swim with shore based swimmers who have been doing it for years. THey get really pissed off, as some of the punters around town try to sell such swimming encounters when they can do it for free. The punters try to entice him in by running a dinghy outboard near shore ,then dumping snorkellers off the side.

All you have to do is go join the other regular swimmers from shore for free.

The reason for the ourboard- he loves prop wash, as you can soon see underwater, as he spirals in the wash, and has many scars on his nose where he encountered a little too closely

Here's a web site about "friendly" or "sociable" dolphins. Explains a lot about them.

Have swam with "Dusty" when she was at The Blaskets. There's a powerful current when she flicks her tail!

When we had our boat in Dingle, Fungie would follow us in preference to the trip boats and it got a bit disconcerting to see 2 or 3 trip boats bearing down on us at speed.

It appears he or she has found herself a partner, the yacht that followed us into Yarmouth on Saturday saw two dolphins right by the harbour entrance.
