Yarmouth 3&4th April (Easter) Walk-ashore

It ought to be easy for them to try and re-let the berth after a cancellation.
If they are successfull then you get a 50/75%/100%? refund.
That would encourage those who book but cannot make it to let them know and avoid those empty berths which are really annoying for those who try and enter the harbour at a weekend when the harbour full sign is up.
Their computer ought to be able to handle it, but if not they've got enough harbour staff there sitting around to manage it.

Because Yarmouth isn't a marina and are more reliant on visitor income, nor do they require every visitor to prepay - just those requiring the premium walk a shore berths which are a small minority of the available berths.QUOTE]

So if I've booked and paid knowing there's no refund then why bother to let them know if i can't make it? Surely better for them to giva an incentive of a partial refund. And then they can re-let the berth thus making more profit than they are likely to do now.

Perhaps the answer is to charge a £25 booking fee.

To book a sat night you pay
£25 booking fee
£30 berthing fee
£55

If you dont turn up you loose £55
If you cancel you get your berthing fee back £30 but loose the £25 booking fee.

Its transparent but then so is the current system, the problem appears to be people booking before they know if they can actually go !

Because if you don't turn up by a certain time they will relet the berth to a latecomer anyway (and there will always be one in season) whether you are coming or not.

The bottom line is if you aren't sure you are going to turn up, don't book the berth. Unfortunate for those that have a genuine reason for non arrival but they are paying the cost to prevent others monopolising the berths.

At the end of the day there are only 15 bookable berths and over 200 unbookable berths.

Bloody hell, so I could be delayed for some reason and find my pre-booked berth gone and presumably my cash along with it!! Do you then get a refund or do you have to pay again for another berth? :(

We had a walkashore booked and prepaid there in December, and not long after midday I had a call from them asking if I was definitely coming because 'we are having trouble holding on to your berth'...

Cheers

I'd hope that "...unless you let them know that you will be arriving late" could be added to that :)
(for me, half the point of booking a berth is being able to stay "out" later).
