Yard on the Medway

Just planning/thinking at the moment, but I might decide to lay-up on the Medway at the end of this season. I want somewhere nearer home(Bromley) than the Blackwater to do a big refit next spring. I need a yard that has good facilities- water, electricity and can handle a draft of 5'6", preferably one that hires decent cradles, and accesable from the M2. Any suggestions?

Hoo Marina has a large hard standing area and I think hire cradles. You may need to check about the draught though as there is a sill. Alternatively, a bit more basic is Mariners Farm at Lower Rainham. I think they use traditional chocking. A few of the members from our club use Mariners Farm as they prefer it's security and more protection from the weather compared to our exposed club car park. Both are easily accessed from the A2 and A289, and under an hour from Bromley.

Hoo Marina is our neighbour at Hoo Ness Yacht Club and you will do as well there as anywhere.

I overwinter at Mariners Farm which I like and which is marginally cheaper.

I travel from Bromley too, and I don't like the 4 lane race track which goes under the pseudonym of the A2/M2 and prefer to use the M20/A289/M2 to reach Mariners- that however is 10 miles longer. Interestingly it makes little difference to the Mariners round trip but it does extend the journey to Hoo by 10 minutes each way.

Don't know about overnighting at Hoo Marina but this is NOT possible at Mariners, so if you intend to work a whole weekend then you will be inconvenienced by having to do the round trip twice each weekend, a real PITA

The cill at Hoo Marina has at least 12 feet over it at Springs- Mariners gives me no problem with a 4ft 8ins. draft on a 5.5 metre tide ( 5.8metre- 6.1 metre tides are not unusual at Springs)
