Yanmar YGM20 dipstick hole diameter ?

I'm aiming to change the oil this weekend in a YGM20 and am going to try one of these vacuum pumps. The smallest tube it came with is 5mm external diameter.

Can anyone tell me if this will fit the dipstick hole ?

If not what size do I need to get today?

Can't answer your question directly but the pipe supplied with the Pela pump certainly fits down the hole OK - at least it does non my 2GM20

The dipstick hole on my 2GM20 is 12mm.

Even using the excellent Pela pump the oil does need to be warm or it takes a long time. 5mm will fit easily into the hole

Yes it takes much longer if the oil is cold but you don't have to watch it whilst it does it's job. Just get on with other elements of the service or have lunch etc.

Second that, just did it at midnight last night with feet up listening to R4. Took a while with cold oil. The dipstick hole is plenty big enough. Would be interested to know though folks -should one occasionally drain 'properly' to get out any gunky bits?

The technically correct answer is probably yes BUT with the lack of decent clearance under the drain plug it would be a very messy job. I suppose one could suck out with Pela and then drain the rest. Problem then is that there would be no rush of oil to get the contaminants out. I'll stick to using the Pela.

I have an idea that what looks like a drain plug on the sump of the small Yanmars isn't actually a drain plug and shouldn't be undone to drain the oil. Can anyone confirm this? Or otherwise of course, as I could easily be wrong.
