My Yanmar 4J engine manual say to use 20 or 30 SAE, single grade oil in the transmission. I can't find single grade oil hereabouts apart from some silly-expensive Yanmar stuff. Will any bog standard mineral multigrade do?
You don't say where "hereabouts" is but Comma do an SAE 30 monograde that is/was widely available in Halfords, motor factors etc: Classic Oils : Products Guide : Moove Lubricants Limited (commaoil.com)My Yanmar 4J engine manual say to use 20 or 30 SAE, single grade oil in the transmission. The OP specifically said that his transmission takes monograde oils.My 4J engine had a Kanzaki gearbox which used ATF. Different engines of that series may have other gearboxes, and saildrives may take something different again. It important to check the gearbox or saildrive recommendation, not just one for the engine.
