I have a Yanmar 30HP and all of a sudden it has stopped moving like i have lost the propellor..
I am about to go under the boat and have a look to see if i have lost the gori prop but i am also thinking that it could be the cone clutch inside the sail drive itself??
Has any one on the forum had any issues with the cone clutch breaking.
The boat goes into gear etc and revs but its like the prop is missing.
I only just put boat back in the water and the prop was fine and i checked this prior to lift in.
There was nothing loose etc.

I have read online about similar issues.

I had a Volvo gearbox that used cone clutches. One for forward and another for reverse. Like this ... <> ... My problem was in reverse where it took 20 sec or two to engage and then had big slippage. OK in forward, so IF the Yanmar has two cones then it should be OK in either forward or reverse. Massive fouling or a plastic bag would effect both forward and reverse.

or a fault with control cable etc

but yes you need to get cold and wet... camera on a pole? then could see if prop rotating also

My first suspicion would be that the Gori folding prop is just not opening.

Whilst I did have a cone slipping in a Yanmar box it was gradual and turned out to be a worn selector fork.

I had problems with the cones on a VP 2030 which eventually meant I installed a new engine. However, the problem was gradual, if it was sudden, as you report, I suspect a prop issue is a far more likely cause.
