Yanmar out of diesel market

Having failed to secure supplies of the new Toyota 4.5 V8 diesel after the Toyota 1HD (6LP) ceases production rumours are that Yamaha are pulling out of of the marine diesel market. Expect some stunning deals at Southampton.

Looks like Yanmar outflanked Yamaha for the 6LP replacement.

And we know where Nanni are getting their Toyota 1HD replacement engine from!

What a dreadfully pompous post

Content of the posting is 100% factual, if unintended heading was sufficient to alert just one reader from parting with his or her hard earned cash to purchase some very expensive hardware which the poor sucker later found out that was a run out product, then the post will have served its purpose.

I witnessed blatant spam regarding the Rodman thread, which caused barely a ripple. or do I sense double standards?

Too many journals are poodles to big name manufacturers and distributors manipulating them though their advertising budget, all at the readers expense. Internet forums should be a source of honest and factual information. This post is all of that.

From the costs I have been quoted of the whole BY debacle, give it time incorrect heading could also end up being true true.

I was just trying to help, by asking Dan to change your subject line, as it certainly alarmed me, but YBW say you cannot use that facility accept to "report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts." So I didn't.

Next time I won't bother.

I think you need to pay more attention to what you "read".
 
Explains everything! I have had a Yanmar single cylinder petrol generator 2.6 Kw, which the Yanmar Eauropean Office denies event exists, as we " have never sold a petrol product in Europe" Somebody sold me it 10 years ago, and yep it was in Europe.
Is it true therefore that Yanmar are going into both Piano and motorcycle production??

Comments like this give me real cause for concern as to how ill informed British boaters are.

Post was an attempt to enable readers to make a data based decision when making a costly purchase.

Let me try to make the situation clearer.

Toyota manufactures the 1HD diesel engine (4.163 litres 94 x 100 mm) engine primarily for the Landcruiser, a small incremental market is the sale of the engine a marine engine which has proved hugely successful worldwide and has sold in very large numbers.

Engine is marinised and distributed by Nanni, Yamaha and Yanmar and typically sold as T6-300, ME422 and 6LP.

Toyota Landcruiser required a major engine upgrade due to tightening vehicle emission regulations, and a new common rail 4.5 litre diesel V8 was launched last year which has gradually been replacing the old IL6 diesel. The marine market cannot sustain the production cost of the engine alone therefore Toyota gave all its OEM customers the heads up to production end a few years ago.

Yanmar has cut a deal with Toyota in which they get exclusivity on the marine version of the new V8 which was in part one of the drivers for the development of their new outdrive package. U.S. Yanmar distributors are already being told that the new 370Hp V8 diesel/drive package is due for press release in Q4 this year.

Yamaha have failed to obtain an engine supply deal from Toyota, and being unable to source an equivalent power unit. Add to this the fact that their drive would require costly re-engineering to accept higher powers, have said as they say in the Dragons Den ‘I am out’.

Nanni have already signalled their future intentions reported on this forum.

I had naively assumed readers were better informed than they obviously are. With Southampton fast approaching appeared to be a good time to give people the heads up as to what is behind potential deals out there.

If you own car, journals always have plenty of insider information as to manufacturers’ future intentions.

In our marine market the press appears to have a mushroom culture and rely on being fed press releases and nothing more, for fear of upsetting advertisers.

Is this attempt in neon lights sufficient, or does it still appear to be a form of shorthand?

Great informative post - but is it Yanmar or Yamaha who is in or out?

Thank you, and yes it makes sense now. Like a lot of boaters I am interested in boating and do not follow the in's ans out's of the engine market to that kind of level.

Your pompous and arrogant attitude aside, it would have been more helpful to post that in the first place. The incorrect thread title does nothing to make the first post clear.

You wonder why many of your posts attract the comments that they do ? On the one hand you post some information, on the other you do it in an arrogant and derisory fashion.
