Measure the ID or OD and the depth or width of the O ring groove, to estimate the cross sectional diameter. Then also meaure the old O ring diameter. This will have flattened so meaure the fattest and thinnest parts and work out the average.

Also the cross section diameter should equal OD - ID.

Note it is not easy to accurately measure a loose O ring so try to measure the recess ID or OD.

Then google O ring chart. There are various scales for BS, and metric. So if you have for instance a 2.62 mm BS, you could increase to 3mm, but try to keep the ID the same.

Be wary of trying to go too fat with a replacement O ring, this just doesn't work.

A good way of sealing an old O ring is to smother it in Loctite 577 before re-assembling.

For diesel use Nitrile, Neoprene or Bhuna are just fine.

Many thanks for replies but does anyone know the answer so I can get an O ring before taking the assembly apart?

I am working through the maintenance of my 2GM20 and relevant spares so I have a new Yanmar genuine 24341 -000440 fuel filter O ring in stock. It lies to a pretty true circle in the clear packet so I can tell you that it measures 44mm id and 48mm od.It also carries the reference S-44 on the packet as possible confirmation.
The ring section measures a smidgeon under 2mm diameter.
I haven't had a leak previously so I hope I don't acquire one when the filter is renewed.

Hi Halo, You can have one from my kit if you like. It is 48mm OD and 43mm ID 3mm thickness.Send me your address by pm. Regards Phil

Hi Phil
Many thanks for that. Is your Kit the one listed as "Wickes Assorted O rings 3mm section" at £1.49 - I will visit Wickes and get a set if it has the 43mm id one in it.
