Brand new never been used at all, or used this season and just about to endure it's first winter?
If the latter, change the engine and gearbox oil and fit new oil filter. Take the inlet water pipe off the seacock and put it in a bucket of fresh warm water (might need a friend here unless you've got 6 arms). Run the engine so it draws its cooling water from the bucket - that way you'll have flushed a couple of gallons of fresh through to get rid of the salt. Then fill the bucket with an antifreeze solution and run the engine briefly again - this will draw the antifreeze into the engine. Stop the engine just as it sucks up the last dregs (don't run it dry). Refit the hose back onto the (closed) seacock so the antifreeze doesn't drain out again.
The next bit defies logic really, but it's what I've done to mine - take the cover off the water pump and remove the impeller, then refit the cover. In theory, all your antifreeze will pour out of the pump into the bilge, but in practice you only get a bit of a dribble, and most seems to stay inside the engine - at least it does on my boat.
Take off the air filter cover and remove the filter. Spray a rag with WD40 and stuff it into the air inlet, then replace the cover. Write a big notice in indelible ink to remind you to remove the rag in the spring - VERY important!!
I spray the whole of the outside of the engine with WD40 and then cover it with a clean dry cloth - an old towel.
Lastly, you might want to save up for a Speedseal water pump cover - about £35 but worth every penny in my view - you'll probably agree once you've dropped those stupid little 7mm bolts into the bilge a few times!
Not sure about the legality but if you go on ebay there's a guy who advertises Yanmar Manual on CD ROM. Over 200 pages. I bought one and it has everything in it including winterisation.
Have a very good 1GM7 20 years old,
Yes I do most of these winterising things every year.
It never got done for the first 15 years, and it didnt make any difference.
The pump shaft seals, the generator and the starter all crapped out. but not due to not winterising
