Yanmar hours clock

Morning all , the hour clock on my boat has stopped ( last reading 500 hours ) I am in process of selling her trading her in for a new one , any ideas , how to get hours back.

Has it actually stopped, or is the display simply blank? That is a common fault on Yanmar instrument panels. They are ridiculously expensive to replace. The fault is caused by a cable connector that is simply not robust enough for marine use - if you have patience and a steady hand, you can dismantle it, clean the contacts and reassemble fully working. There are instructions out on the web

if heating / drying / cleaning / fettling doesn't work ..... and sometimes none of those will work, you are left with buying VDO part no. A2C00065115 online and fitting a new display module. It's fiddly but at least you don't lose your current hours total when you fit it.

If i am not mistaken the Yanmar clock is made by VDO as is many other motor brands, they are known to loose connection from the press in socket at the back and then stop working. Just unplug the socket, use a folded out paper clip or any other sharp tool to clean the holes, then a small flat screwdriver to scrape the pins on the mating part.
Spray a light dose of WD40and reconnect. That solved my own problem and it is working again.

You use the old dial and needle. It's just the LCD screen that is being replaced.

You re-calibrate the needle position by applying battery voltage to the terminals on the back of the meter and pushing on the needle so that it points at zero revs with 12V being applied.

I have had similar issues on both my previous boat and current boat. Started with an intermittent flashing then eventually only appearing occasionally. In both cases I fitted a separate mechanical hour meter. Before fitting to the boat I wired it to a small 9v battery to clock up the hours to match the last displayed on the Yanmar display. That way at least the new hour meter has the correct number of hours.

Not sure if they still make it but I found a 'Thorneycroft' badged LCD round hour meter on ebay and did the same as Rick - no problems in 5 years since. I took power from behind the Yanmar switch panel so it counted when the ignition was on.
