Yanmar cut out, re-starts, runs, then dies

Never seen diesel bug that bad before, no wander it clogs the filters! Looks like frogspawn lol. Touch wood haven't had an issue yet but I use marine 16 as a matter of course anyways. It's very cheap in relation too the fuel as the dose is so small so thought I'd use it. She's out of the water at the moment and the whole system is coming out shortly so will have a look to see if theirs any in the tank or lines.

For those that have mentioned cleaning / flushing the tank, does this have to be done by removal of the tank or are there flush agents you can fill up and then drain off whilst in situ (BTW the tank does not have a drain on it)

I built a mini fuel polisher. It is very basic, just a 12V diesel pump, a motor bike filter and some 8mm rubber fuel hose. Pump and a pile of filters came cheap from a Chinese website.

I open up the inspection hatch and pump out as much fuel as I can into cans. Making sure to pump through the filter. Add diesel bug wotsit to the last dregs of fuel - Marine 16 is good - doesn't take much to give a decent high concentration when there's only 5 or 10l left in the tank.

I then run the engine in parallel with the fuel polisher cycling fuel back into the tank. The polisher helps stir up what's in the tank. Most of the fuel (on my engine at least) goes through the filters and back down the return pipe.

After about an hour, stop the engine and change the filters. Pump the fuel from cans back in.
