Hi folks, I have a 2012 Yanmar 4JH5E engine linked to SD60 saildrive. On haul out this year, noticed a lot of small mussels in the saildrive intake which I will clean out, OK so far. Thing is - this happened before to me on my last boat (VP 2003 with 120S saildrive), when the engine overheated. I found at that time that the heat exchanger was also clogged with tiny mussels which caused the overheat.

So - I think it probably wise to dismantle the heat exchanger on the Yanmar. Question is how does it comes apart? I have been searching the service manuals, on line, youtube etc but there is not much detail about this. Any hints/tips?

Cheers

Thanks, but the link you gave is just the owners manual.

Have now found access to the full engine service manual so question answered !

You remove the two end covers on the heat exchanger and push the tube stack out either way.
We had to remove the high rise mixing elbow to get it out that way.

Thanks, however the service manual link on the Barrus site for the 4JH5E is the incorrect one
Sorry, I think I already knew that.

The 4JH5E is covered by the 3JH5E manual.

You have to apply a bit of lateral thinking sometimes .......... or to have hunted it down before :encouragement:

No problem, always appreciate your helpful advice!

Thanks, that sounds much easier than the VP 2003 where the heat exchanger had to be removed from the engine.
