Hi there,

Engine will not start, local Engineers suggest that the fuel shut-off solenoid, mounted on the injection pump, is not working and could be cutting off fuel supply.

Has anyone in the forum had a problem with this part and how did you remove it ? I cannot get a ring or open-ended spanner on the hex, only an adjustable with the dipstick pulled out of the way. With the adjustable I cannot get enough leverage to undo the solenoid. I am wondering whether there is a Yanmar special tool required :-(

Any help appreciated.

Cannot see from the picture but could you get a deep socket on it. Or a tube/box spanner.

I've replaced our solenoid on a Yanmar 4JH4E.
It was no effort at all.
Just used a hex socket on an extension on one bolt but the other bolt I had to use a short ring spanner.
(If you don't have a short ring spanner you could take an angle grinder to an existing spanner!)
Photo off Marine Powers web site. £220.
Let us know if it was the fuel solenoid.
(I would be quite surprised if it was this but you'll soon know once it's off the engine.)
