Yanmar 3YM30 injector timing

FID is when fuel is used in the injection pump, and is timed when the delivery valve opens, Fuel Injection Delivery.
FIC is when air is used instead of fuel.
I have no idea what the C stands for.
If you're using a timing light or checking the spill timing you would always use the first measurement, not the one in brackets.

How does a timing light work on a diesel engine? I assume that it has a sensor which can detect the fuel pulses from a mechanical injector but what does the light do? I've never looked at a diesel engine crankshaft pulley to see if there are even timing marks on it but had assumed that there wouldn't be any markings?

Yes it's a sensor that clamps on to the injector pipe. More expensive timing lights such as snap on have the sensor as an extra. No use for one now on modern common rail diesels. Not that many diesel engines had timing marks either. Mercedes car engines used to have them on the crank pulley, Yanmar put them on the flywheel.
