I'm doing some work on a Yanmar 3GM30F that has developed a severe oil leak from the injector pump.
Details:
Removed the injection pump, fuel lines and timing shims.
Had three timing shims installed and measured each out using a micrometer to be 0.125 in, being a total of 0.375 in.

Few questions:
1. Yanmar's timing shim kit includes the following shims, 2 x 0.10 in, 2 x .14 in, 1 .22in, however they all have a grey coat of something, should I round up to .380 in using 2 x .14 in and 1 x .10 in?
2. Is that grey coat between each shim some sort of sealant or gasket?
3. Should I apply some liquid gasket maker, such as permatex ultra grey?
4. If I do use permatex, which surfaces should it be applied to?
5. Will the application of permatex influence the timing?
6. Lastly, How sensitive to slight differences in height is the injection pump?
Plan to do this job tomorrow morning, any help is much appreciated.
Thank, Martin.
