Hi
I have a raw water cooled Yanmar 2gm20. The engine has two anodes screwed onto large diameter, slightly tapered screws. Mine weep slightly leaving a salt deposit on the engine block even though I have tightened them up as much as I dare. Should I be using some sort of "gu" on the threads ?. What do you use ?. Or do I ignore it.

If you use a sealant make sure you do still have good metal to metal contact by testing with your multimeter on its lowest ohms range

I use ptfe tape on the threads.

You can use PPTFE or Sikaflex if you need to although I don't remember needing any sealant in 20 years. There won't be any problem with electrical continuity.

Have you changed the copper washer under the plug? These go hard overtime and need to be renewed or you can heat up under flame to make it soft again so it seals correctly.

...mmm, not sure mine had copper washers???? I take it we are referring to the plug and not the anodes themselves? Referring to the anodes, mine came fitted with a plastic washer? Seemed odd but cant see any problems with electrical continuity as well threaded?

Addendum:
The aft one only (why?) has a copper sealing washer (checked the other day)
