I have not done so but have a Yanmar 2FM20 sea water cooled. My installation manual does, in chapter 9, tell you how to convert to fresh water cooled useing a kit supplied by Yanmar (or Barrus the main distributor.) I have found Barrus to be very helpfull and sugest you aproach them

Glen,,my boat has 2GM20 c/w calorifier on it.. works well loads of hot water, but the engine is freashwater cooled with heat exchanger, you didnt say if yours was same??

I WOULD APPRECIATE HEARING FROM ANYONE WHO HAS SUCESSFULLY INSTALLED A CALORIFIER ONTO THE SMALL YANMAR ENGINES.

My unit is sea water cooled and I may have to look at a conversion is it a DIY job?

Glen,,can be DIY installed if you have basic working knowledge of engines and cooling systems. Contact E.P.Barrus (agents for Yanmar) and talk to them first. 1 pointer though,,,airlocks can be a problem when first firing up the system, but once you clear them you should have no probs all season!!

Dear Glen,
This is the 5th time I type this message; nothing to do with you but by the time I discovered the new protocol with Scuttlebut, setting up accounts etc - so it may get through this time.
Basically I wanted to say that I have just fitted a calorifier to my Yanmar 2GM freshwater cooled engine. My bible was a 1997 YM supplement and if you wish I can bore you with further details of fitting experiences and contact you directly? if you want to let me know your email. Can recommend it-hot water makes for a happy crew/wife/mate ! and saves Gas but not good for racing- another water tank.
Regards
Joss

Any diagram for installing heat exchanger on 2GM would be great, if anyone can help, thanks for the help

A thread resurrected after 10 years 7 months. Is this a record?

If you PM me your email address I can send you a PDF copy of the engine manual which contains a chapter on how to do the conversion.
