Yanmar 2GM pulleys

The belt pulleys on my engine are showing signs of rust. How difficult is it to remove them so that I can make a good job of re-painting them?

the alternator and crank pulleys come off easily with a three leg puller, the water pump one was a right bugger to release without distorting the pressed steel pulley.
I cleaned them off on a lathe which was cheating i suppose.
