Unfortunately I managed to break the hand start lobe whilst starting the engine by hand. I assume that it is part of the camshaft, or is there any chance that it just locates on the end? If it is part of the camshaft, has anyone re-built? Where can I get a new or recon unit. Does any one have a blown 1GM10 gathering dust in a shed somewhere.

In hope.

If you pass anywhere near Bursledon on the Hamble you could do worse than call into Marine Power (by Aladdin's Cave) and ask their advice. It's so long since I looked at my 1GM7 (same block) that I can't remember, and I won't be going near the boat until next week at the earliest.

had a look in the manual. you're in luck: the start handle engages on a pin which goes through a hole in the end of the camshaft. it's held in place by an allen screw that goes into the end of the camshaft. once you remove the guard sleeve it should be simple to replace. you'll probably have to order the part and it will be ridiculously expensive but at least it isn't a major strip-down!
