Carrying on from my engine woes.....sorry if it's getting a bit tiresome, i'll get it sorted soon, I promise!

I managed to find a nice 1GM10 engine but unfortunately it had a saildrive and so came without a gearbox. Has anyone got a Yanmar 1GM10, Gm20 or Gm30 gearbox for sale or know anyone that might have one?

Thanks guys!

James

You could try RHP Marine, here in Cowes. They installed a recon Yanmar GM30F for me a few years ago and I would recommend them. I often see Yanmar gearboxes when I go in, so they may have something.

You might also try Cellar Marine, Yanmar dealers in Cornwall who do a lot of refurbishment.

As I mentioned previously you need to be careful on the ratio you choose. Measure how big a prop you can swing - you need min 15% diameter clearance and then get a recommendation either from Propcalc or from your prop supplier before you choose the ratio. I expect the Yanmar dealer will also give you some advice. You have to run the engine at high revs (cruising around 2800-3000, max 3400-3600) to get enough power. Very different from your petrol engine. Getting the right ratio and prop size is key to getting the engine to work well.

You might also try Alan Dibley at Hayling Yacht Co. (DB Marine I think). He fits both Yanmar and Beta engines, and I was able to get a s/h water trap for my Yanmar from him, 2 years ago now, as he reckons more people upgrade from Yanmar to Beta than the other way around.

He had a small surplus of incompatible water traps, because he won't throw away used but usable kit. A man after my own heart.

I'd imagine that a saildrive gearbox would be more in demand than a shaft drive. Have you thought about either putting the old one on ebay, or seeing if a supplier with a shaft drive one will do a trade?

Just re-read what you posted - have you got the saildrive with it or did you buy it without?

I bought without Nick, the old saildrive had already been sold unfortunately.

1GM10 Gearbox

Hi James

Not sure if your sorted yet, but i have a 1GM10 Gearbox to sell, was actually,
going to take it to a Boat Jumble Next Weekend.

Ratio is 2:21 which is the ratio used mostly in yacht installations and from my past experience the hardest to come by secondhand!

Drop me a message if you still need one

Regards

Mark
