Yanmar 1GM10 gearbox oil capacity?

We drained the gear box oil with a vacuum extractor and filled with 0.3 litre capacity as stated on the gear box plate

When checking the level with the dipstick, the level appeared much higher, more in-line with the corrosion indicated on the dipstick. We didn't screw the dipstick in as recommended.

Okay, we can suck out the extra but is something is amiss?

Has anyone had this problem?

I hope the two piccies show what I'm trying to say.

Did you check the quantity that came out? Perhaps you didn't get it all.

Changed mine recently
I topped it up to the max mark on your picture.
As you do I also understand the bottom of the dipping rod to be the minimum.
It,s a very small tolerance.
Also did it without screwing the dipstick in.

However , I did not check the actual volume added.

All I can say is the box was ok last season with the levels as I set them.

Your level with 300ml seems too high.

On reflection I am not sure why the level has to be between these tight limits
The box has no pump and must be splash lubrication of the bearings gears and clutches.

On second thoughts has the box a breather and and are you seeing any oil expelled from it ?

Thanks for the answers so far.

Must admit I don't know if the box has a breather.

We emptied the engine oil first so don't know how much we took out of the gearbox.
We extracted the oil out in two hits with about 1/2 hour gap, making sure (we thought) that we had it all.

Agree that the max & min are very close.

We're now thinking that we will ignore the amount and just rely on the dipstick.

Up Date

Found the reason of too much oil.

The outer covering of the pick up tube was damaged so air was bleeding in

Problem now solved.

For interest the pump is a Pela 6000.
