Yanmar 1GM oil pressure sensor

I think the sensor has started to play up intermittently. Very recently, when I switch on there is no light and no buzzer. Engine starts and runs normally. I have found that once the engine is warm and I then shut it down the oil pressure light and buzzer workas normal when pressure subsides. I am therefore fairly confident that the sensor is faulty.

My question is - being a cheapskate, is there any 'serviceable' element in the sensor, or do I have to stump up for the price of a new one?

Check the circuit inc bulb and buzzer by shorting the connection on the sender to earth.
If the bulb and buzzer operate every time replace the sender. If they dont you have the whole circuit to check for bad connections.

OR check the operation of the sender as suggested in the workshop manual with an ohmeter.

I agree with you its most likely to be a faulty sender.

I agree with vic, check the connector, dont just look at it , cut it off and replace it. The vibration shaking the wires makes this joint bad often.

£12.95 for a new replacement oil sender as I just bought one for the 1gm10.
Perhaps Santa will bring you one.

I have the same 'problem' on my 1 GM 10. Sometimes the light will show and the alarm will sound when I turn the key, and other time it won't!

Try undoing the little screw on the sensor, removing it and the connection, clean it up and re-assemble it. This seems to work for me, and indicated that the sensor itself is probably ok. The other week when I started the engine, the alarm and light didn't show, but last week, I turned the key (didn't even start the engine) and the light and alarm were alive and well.

One of the guys on the C&C forum changed his sender on his 3QM.
Says it was from an early '80's Toyota Tercel and was this one:
Part number is: Niehoff OP23741.*0.5 kgm/sq. cm. or 5-8 psi.
Also that it should fit most Yanmars and was about $13 - 8 pound sterling to you!
Take your old one out and take it to a Toyota dealer - see if it matches up.
