Yanmar 1gm alternator mount breaks

Pal of mine has a 1gm and he has welded theengine casing alternator mount after it cracked ... but it keeps cracking.

Anybody any thoughts ? He's considering creating a plate that uses engine mount feet as well .... (he's Commercial Mgr for Metals Factory).

Persistent cracking is usually fatigue as a result of resonance. Changing the natural frequency of the assembly somehow should fix it - shorter belt? Stiffer mount?

This is the same guy who uses levers to force belts on without slacking adjustor !! I have tried suggesting less drastic method .....

But I cannot say that to him ... when I tried ... he just answered > That's how I've always done it ...

Maybe I'll try again ...

If he's always done it that way and it's cracked , it's time to try something else. Doing something the same way and expecting a different result is crazy.
