I have a Yanmar 1 GM 10 in my boat, but have no idea of its age. I was told somewhere along the line that there isn't an easy way of finding the build date even from Serial Numbers:confused::confused:

Does anyone know how I can find out my engine's date of manufacture? It was probably third hand when I got it. Serial number to follow later, when I get home from even more jobs!!:D:D

Thanks

Geoff

I don't know the date of manufacture, but the "date of production start" for the 1gm 10, according to a catalogue was 1983.

9.0hp @ 3600 rpm; 1 cylinder 75x72 (bore x stroke mm); 0.318 cubic litres; 76kg dry weight.

Taken from an old pdf catalogue from www.woodenboatshop.com.au

So, in answer: it is up to 29 years old. My YSM8 at 35 years maximum is still going strong.

Found my Serial Number: 06378. But I believe there may have been batch numbers for different countries/continents.

Hopefully some UK subscribers will post their own details.

Thanks for your help from 'down under'.

Cellar Marine in Porthallow are active Yanmar agents who may be able to help. EP Barrus are the UK distributors and have been for as long as Yanmars have been sold in UK.

Although it might be interesting to know how old it is in practical terms it is not really relevant as there have been virtually no changes since the 1GM10 replaced the 1GM, so all the usual spares are the same, and a Yanmar agent would be able to tell any differences in parts by your serial number.
