The T&C,s of the Waranty just refer to having a record of recommended servicing be made, no mention whether that has to be done by an Authorized Dealer. Any experience of warranty claims to Yamaha and difficulty in only having a self-service record?

I worked for some time in the Technical Dept-responsible for warranty-of Kawasaki Motors UK Ltd. The guy I/C warranty was an asshole, always argued the toss never wanted to pay.

He refused a claim on a Z1000 once, owned by an aircraft engine technician who worked at Heathrow. The case went to court and the decision was that if the owner had proved technical competence, access to the latest manuals and tech information and used genuine spare parts the claim must be accepted.

Our guy went to appeal on the access to the latest tech information bit, which only dealers had access to. The customer trumped this by telling the appeal court that as he was a long time customer of Kawasaki products, his dealer appraised him regularly of new tech requirements for his bike sent out in dealer only mail shots.

Our guy then went after the dealer for giving out this info, until someone whispered in his ear what a twat he was being.

An American collegue came to the KMUK Tech dept for six months, bringing US customer service philosophy with him.

He made a badge for the stroppy guy from a kitchen cleaner bottle.

It read " D*** H***-Mildly Abrasive "

We did chuckle!

So, if an experienced mechanic who has access to the correct manuals and tech updates and uses genuine spare parts and carries out the specified service work at the right time and marks the book so, it will be difficult for a warranty claim to be refused by the dealer/manufacturer.
