Hi - Quick question about my Yamaha 9.9 HP four stroke engine, year of manufacture 1990. Does this engine require LRP to be added to the fuel or will it be OK on lead free. Thanks for any feedback. Chris H.

The problem with new fule is that it has some alcohol in it which burns in a different patten,in which case a side valve engine would be better suited. As the O/B has the plug in the center of the chamber it will be fine.Or should be!
The other question of burnt valves is known and hardend valves have been fittend to all engins? since it was known the fule would contain alcohol and no lead if you use 98% that still hasent any lead but again the valves are made to allow for there not being any lead th lubricate them.

My 1980s Honda, according to the manual, requires fuel with a minimum of 85octane. Unleaded is 95octane so meets these requirements. I would have thought you would be OK - I am not adding anything into mine anyway.
