Have acquired a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke 2010 outboard with very low hours.

It has not been used for 6 years.

Before trying to start it what should b done first?

Check there's fuel in it.

Since the oil would have broken down I'd give it a service.

A suggested a full service would be a good idea

In particular
Check or change engine oil
check / change gear box oil
Fit new pump impeller
Fresh petrol. (Get alcohol free if you can otherwise E5 rather than E10.) . Replace filter

I'd change the engine and transmission oil rather than topping it up.

There aren’t any proper service centers here so will have the (timed served) mechanic do all of the above.

Before actuaĺy starting it, turn it over with kill cord removed to circulate oil throughly round engine.
