We are in Loch Aline in Scotland and we were crossing on the plain when we suddenly lost drive. The engine revs ok but it is like a slipping clutch, we had to complete the long ourney for the shore and a slot place and felt we had to be ready with the oars?

At slow speed it is ok but I am concerned that we might end up with no drive at all.

The propeller turns in forward and reverse but obviously somewhere in the system something is slipping when under load. Being in Scotland without a working outboard will be highly inconvenient, is there anything I can do or do I need to find a dealer? If so I would welcome recommendations of a dealer who might be able to help at short notice as I don’t want to lose my holiday hanging around …

Almost certainly a spun prop hub,

Confirm by marking the end of the prop shaft and the prop. Go for a short run powering up until it slips. Then examine the marks. If they don't line up it confirms the spun hub.

Someone might come along with a bodge involving drilling and inserting a self tapping screw, but I'd not trust it for more than a "get you home" solution

There are dealers in the Oban area
