Yamaha 8hp 4stroke - checking valve clearance

I can see the valve clearance settings, but at the risk of being dense, how do you check the valve clearances on this engine? It's an F8cmh 2 cylinder 4 stroke.

With a feeler gauge between each rocker and the heel of the corresponding cam. ??

Clearances as specified in the owners manual.

The cylinder head cover. #9 in this diagram
The rockers should then be revealed .... just like taking the top cover off the car engine when you check its valve clearances except that an outboard engine is tipped onto its end.

I cant say what other bits if any will be in the way and will have to be moved out of the way first. Hopefully the lower cowling wont prevent access!

If you are careful you might get away without renewing the seal #11
