Can anyone tell me about these engines? Are they ok? Are there any major issues we should look out for before buying a second hand boat with these engines?

What can I say???

They are the best and believe me I have had them all.
The yamaha range are taken from the Toyota block and marinised by Yamaha. The ME370 was used for the MOD and police and with the Hydrodrive unit takes up no more room than a v8 and in some cases more powerful.
OK, the down falls!! dont like the water inlet through the leg, it has a flimsey nylon bush which has a sell by date and when blocked or damaged can stop water getting into the engine which causes overheating, so put SEA COCKS IN.
Parts are expensive and yamaha has cornered the market so dont even try to look around for other makers.
I have undergone a total refit, changing 2x omc 5.8 lt petrols with 2x Yamaha ME370 this was a big job and I put in a lot of re-search into it and now the boat is finished it gives me 32knots without missing a beat. Not bad on the consumption neither, you just wont go wrong good cruising

Great engnies I look after moodys, can honestly say there bomb proof as a base unit, the legs have been fine, just service items, keep the oils in the legs changed every year and the strainer filter.
