We have a Yamaha 40 on the back of our 3.4m walker bay. Its too big for the boat (mothership and tender) so we are looking to downsize to 'just' a 25.

Any idea what a 2007 40Hp would be worth. The ideal solution would be to do a straight swap to a 25 of similar vintage.

Bill Higham marine may be worth a call. They would take yours in and sell / swap with a 25hp and they issue a warranty on used engines.

Cool thanks. Sounds about right. Condition is good bar a cracked engine cover.
Above price sounds right to me too, except Jez it is short 15 inch shaft and there just ain’t much demand for them nowadays in 40hp sector. And cracked lid is unfortunately expensive so might affect value. I had cracked cover on an old boxy shaped yam 50hp. £600 iirc (the dealer selling me the engine, new, paid bcz was his fault- long pointless story).
So price might be quite a bit lower, eek, even if you can find a short shaft wanter
