Yamaha 370STI parts availability

Hi All,

I'm look to buy a boat with a diesel Yamaha 370STI engine. I understand that the engine and sterndrive are now discontinued. Does anyone know what the reliability and parts availability is like on these?

3.7 litre 165 hp and their own flavour of a stern drive, looking like Volvo.

What boat - and what alternatives do you see?

It's a Fletcher 22 GTS, can't see many options for a small entry level sports cruiser with diesel.

Agree, they tend to be with outboards which, in my book, suites that category of boating perfectly.

Did you do a search on this forum for Sterndrives? Lot's of experience shared.

Based on a toyota automotive engine apparently, so core engine parts should be easy enough; marinisation bits may be another matter.

Not so sure about the Toyota relation. Never seen a Toyo 3.7 diesel... who has and where?

Wikipedia says there is a Toyota 14B which is 3.7l and was used in some light commercial vehicles. Whether that is it I couldn't say and it would have needed some tweeking by/for Yamaha to get the extra 60 dobbins out of it as Toyota only tuned it to 100hp.

We restored a 10m RIB with twin Yams and Outdrives. What a nightmare, some parts are obsolete these days. A lot of time spent on the phone/online.

There is a chance that this is it. Full cast iron and someone should retrofit an intercooler. Still not an extra 60-65 horses tho.

Thanks for the info. I will give them a call but suspect I'll look for another boat. I don't like the idea of not being able to get parts fit there is an issue.
