Yamaha 2b difficult to pull start.

I have a problem with my yamaha 2b it is very stiff to pull and will not start, I think the impellor is damaged, how do I get to it?
Unfortunately the motor has been laid up for a time and probably didn't get flushed after the last use.

Sounds worse. My yamaha managed to sieze up inside & I had to give it away to a cannibal.

My Suzuki 2.2 has just become constipated but starts ok.

you might find that it has seized, i had the same problem happen to me, it conked out one day, i tried to start it again to no avail, the internal bores had salted up and the head had overheated, it was uneconomic to get it fixed, so forked out for a honda 2 hp 4stroke.

a stiff engine wont be cuased by the impellor. siunds like its on the verge of wanting to seize up. you could try putting some 2stroke oil down the bore and let it sit for a few days

Yep as nyx2k says, taint the impellor.
The top end, ie the piston and rings area could be the prob.
On some outboards the shaft which runs from the top to the bottom, ie from the "Power Head" as it is sometimes called can seize in the tube it runs in.
Most small 2 strokes if left standing for a while can suffer from the piston rings (steel) seizing to the piston (aluminium) plus the piston can seize to the cylinder (steel) if this has happened a strip down is required.
Ok try and put some lube down the plug hole and maybe it will turn over more freely.
If the motor has got to the stage were it is stiff to turn over it sounds like the minimum that has happened that the rings have stuck to the piston anyway.
Even if you get Her to start and run I doubt it will be efficient or reliable.
To check that you do not have a prob with recoil/string/ spring/ anything at the bit at the top to do with the" top" at that end try turning the prop by hand.
If it is difficult to turn the prop especially with the plug out.
You have a piston/bore related prob.
If She turns over ok with a manual turn of the prop. You have a starter mechanism snag.

Thanks, I have replaced the outboard, but would like to make this one work again as a back-up. Have lubed the bores and no difference,engine even tries to fire up!
I suspect that the shaft has got seized/stiff in the tube, have removed two bolts down by gearbox, but still won't budge, this may also indicate a siezed tube/shaft. Does any one know if there are other bolts/fixings holding it together?
Have not been able to undo exhaust cover screw, but it doesn't look like it can be the problem........ any one know different?
