We have recently bought a yamaha 2b outboard. Its more or less in 'as new' condition with unblemished paintwork and no corrosion, its had been stored for the last 15 years and used in fresh water before that. The seller changed the impeller (I checked it - its perfect) and plug and it runs perfectly.

However there's only a small amount of water coming from the plastic outlet on the aft side of the prop shaft casing, having been used to the large water flow of a seagull or mercury i'm wondering if this is normal (I imagine this may just be an indicator - not the total flow of water).

Can anyone tell me what we should expect to see flowing from the engine? after 15 minutes of running in the water butt at home the water's still cool so its not overheating.

Also does anyone know where I can download a manual from?

If it's running well and otherwise OK - I would leave well alone. Mine spits out a bit of water down the leg, but not a lot really. 2HP isn't a huge power output, so the water ejected only ever feels warm, not hot. Ours was used in the sea exclusively - and eventually needed the head passages cleaned out with wire. You should be OK for a decade or so with a fresh water engine!
There is no real problem getting gaskets and so on if you feel the need to strip it down more fully.
I've had the head off a couple of times on a pontoon, so it ain't difficult if it needs done!

Thats just a little water being blown out of the exhaust back pressure relief port. AFAIK the engine does not have a telltale like most (larger) outboards so keep an eye on that and become suspicious if you see none at all. You should be able to touch and maintain finger contact briefly with any part of the powerhead except perhaps around the spark plug

The bulk of the cooling water leaves with the exhaust from below the water level.

What you see from Seagulls is the total cooling water flow.

Manuals are available to view on the Yamaha website but only back to 1998. Probably few if any major differnces so worth looking http://www.yamahaoutboards.com/owner-resources/owners-manuals
