Hope you can help “Old George”?

I am writing on behalf of and old member of our sailing club who does not know his way around a computer and the net, to see if anyone has a fuel tap / valve for the afore mentioned. He said that he broke his….. how I have no idea because they are a simple device….. and I would guess impossible to break.

He has tried local marine suppliers & engineers with no success.

He is one of the most helpful members with regards to helping others even if it is with his own style of grumpy…. he goes out of his way even as far as towing another yacht from Largs back to Troon….. (not mine I hasten to add).

Any help in this matter / search would be most appreciated and even extend to an open drinks stowage 24/7… or at least when he’s on his boat.

Thanks in advance for any support / help in this matter.

The broken one is presumably the original aluminium one that is fixed to the casing? Mine leaked badly so I bought a plastic one off the net and inserted it in the line (1/4 diameter I think), and drilled a hole in the plastic engine cover to be able to turn it on/off. Cannot remember where I bought it but it is a typical fuel cut off valve of the type found on small engines e.g lawnmowers; strimmers; generators etc so the net or Ebay is the place

Well if this is the same tap as used on a mariner 2B - they are plastic and very easy to break. All it takes is one attempt to remove the cover without lining-up the hole in the case with the tap - and Voila - one instant busted fuel tap.

If I remember correctly, the tap has a central 'pin' made of plastic, and it is this which breaks-off. I found that by replacing that pin with one made from a s/s set screw, and some Araldite in the right place, a much stronger tap results.

Maybe I should patent the idea ?

I have a 2A as well, recent aquisition, but no fuel tap at all. I looked at a spares site for garden kit, and there are several for around €5. Would need a mounting bracket to fix it, bit of bent ss sheet sounds enough.
Doubt if I would have any luck finding a gen part.

Thanks guys

Thanks guys…. I thought valve replacement with an aftermarket / similar replacement would be the only option… but I was asked to post a request.
I will let George know the recommendations / way ahead today.
