Looks like the T9.9 Yamaha with its huge 3:1 reduction, big diameter ,low pitch dual thrust prop is the only true high thrust motor being produced today. Close second is the old carbureted FT25 which, unfortunately is much too heavy for a kicker. The new 30% lighter EFI T25 certainly ain't in the same category despite the manufacturer's efforts to convince me to the contrary.
For my intended application that leaves me with the choice between Yamaha T9.9 high thrust extra long shaft and Honda BFP15 power thrust 25" shaft. The latter is significantly more expensive, has an inferior gear ratio and weighs a couple of kilos more. But is has a 350 cc block as opposed Yamaha's 212 cc. The all important question is which of the two will be a better trolling motor for my high windage boat, especially in cross winds? Which one will reduce the need to fire up the main to bring the boat back on course???
