Yacht\'s name on lifebuoy?

I have seen the boat's name painted/stencilled on horseshoe lifebuoy, and with letters stuck on. Each method is functional but not always attractive.

Does anyone know of a really neat system? If so, what is it?!

Thanks,

Tam

If you are that way inclined its quite attractive to create little applique letters from offcuts of patterned material and cross stitch round the edges. Lace and organza work particularly well and have a lovely texture, especially attractive if you blend pastel colours with bright eye catching tones of red and blue....green doesnt seem to work quite so well and yellow can be difficult to see, especially in twilight ............

In our case, indelible pen with boat's name and sail number in small print on one of the small square downwards facing ends of the horseshoe.

You can get them precut and on backing paper already laid out to suit the shape of your lifebuoy. All you need to do is position the one piece of paper on the buoy, remove the paper and hey presto! It's very easy and very neat.

Most of the people who supply stick on lettering should be able to do it, but if you have difficulty PM me and I'll try to dig out the name of the people I used.

What a brilliant idea. I think gold spandex would work well. I'm going to sew my boat's name to all my lifejackets and liferaft as well.

it's important to have a reflective surface. this can be acheived by edging the lettering with sequins.

so cheap and tacky.....just the sort of no style approach I would expect from a scotsman.........

Nothing, just answering the accusation that us Scots have no sense of style, and I couldn't find a better example to hand at short notice. Having said that and just to prove it's nothing personal, here is another one.

Its ok Ken, I can handle george......in any case, all he's done with the plethora of piccies (see how educated I am?) is strengthen the very point I was making about lack of style............/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Now, I have been experimenting a little.........papier mache relief lettering looks really cool ...unfortunately it disintegrates when wet....but hey, maybe thats an advantage.........it llooks really great as a show off feature but if the lifebuoy gets used in anger the letters will fall off and you wont be embarassed when the lifeboat crew find it cos the woosy name will have gone !
